Cutting Out Kitchen Accidents

Published on November 18th, 2010

I keep a box of bandages in my kitchen — not the big-sized ones but the small ones.  You know, the kind that wrap around your finger just right.  The kind you need when you accidentally almost sever your finger when slicing up potatoes, apples or whatever.  I just assumed I was one of the few cooks that didn’t always use appropriate caution when wielding  a blade around.  But apparently not.  I found some truly innovative cutting boards online, designed primarily for the aging in place market, but could easily save fingers of any age.  One board had little spikes used to steady a potato, lime, etc.  Another board had a blade attached to the end so the user needed only one free hand to slice (and the blade handle is arthritic friendly.)  Great holiday gift ideas.  Not that I need one, I have gotten pretty good at opening up those Band Aid wrappers with my teeth.
