Boomers Want to Stay Put
Published on January 27th, 2011A recent AARP telephone survey of 1,161 Baby Boomers (adults 45 years or older) found that nearly 73% strongly agreed with the statement, “what I’d really like to do is stay in my current residence as long as possible.” Citing closeness to family, friends and a familiar community as the top reasons for not wanting to leave home.
I hope the survey respondents know about “aging-in-place.” Renovating your home to ensure you can live there long term is just smart. Far too many homeowners wait until they suffer a broken bone or long-term illness before realizing their home is not accessible. Doing a few simple things to entrances, bathrooms and kitchens can guarantee a “user-friendly” house for any age and ability.
I hope those 73% don’t start packing just yet.
