Boomers Want to Stay in the Hood
Published on October 8th, 2010Those of us 45 years old and up like our homes and we want to stay there. No old folks homes, no assisted living communities, no moving in with grown children. The MetLife Mature Market Research Institute’s “Report on Aging in Place 2.0: Rethinking Solutions to the Home Care Challenge” found “multiple studies in the past 10 years have shown that most Americans over age 45 prefer to remain in their own homes….” Sounds perfectly normal to me. Home is your comfort zone, at any age. The study found too that “a new integration … of home design and technology … will likely lead to less stress for older adults … supporting a better quality of life.” What is that “new integration?” Aging in Place. Your home can be remodeled and thus transformed into an Aging in Place home. A home that takes care of you. Your final resting place, so to speak.
